How the service
and tasting work

A representative comes to your home with 3 to 5 thawed products, ready to cook on the spot. You taste, ask your questions, then together you build a meal plan tailored to your tastes and budget. The visit usually lasts about an hour and ends with no obligation to buy.

Yes, the tasting is free and you don’t sign anything on the spot. You taste the products, receive a proposed meal plan, then take your time to decide. If a contract is signed later, the law gives you 10 days to cancel it at no cost and without giving a reason.

Usually 45 minutes to an hour, enough time to taste the products, talk about your needs and leave with a clear meal plan. The exact length depends on the size of your family and how complex your eating habits are.

Not at the moment. The point of the tasting is to let you taste the quality right away, so you can see for yourself if you like it and feel the difference before building your meal plan. An online store is in development to eventually offer this option, but it isn’t available yet.

Delivery area

We serve Montérégie as well as Montreal’s South Shore and North Shore, with a territory that extends to Sherbrooke, Gatineau, Trois-Rivières, Drummondville, Lanaudière and the Laurentians. If your address is outside this area, contact us to check whether we can deliver to you.

Meat quality and origin

Over those weeks, natural enzymes tenderize the muscle fibers deep down while moisture slowly evaporates. The result: a more tender texture and a more concentrated flavor, with richer notes than beef aged only 14 to 21 days, as you’d find at the grocery store.

The Angus breed has richer marbling, the fat woven through the muscle, which makes the meat more tender and flavorful when cooked. At Les Viandes S.M., this beef is also aged 45 to 60 days, well beyond the usual 14 to 21 days at the grocery store.

Pricing, price freeze and commitment

Our products may cost a little more than at the grocery store, but our prices compare more closely to those of a good butcher shop, with several extra services included. You get AAA Angus beef aged longer, the freshest products available, cuts prepared and customized to your family’s needs, and an in-home tasting before you even make your choice.

You also have to consider the yield after cooking. Some products can lose a lot of volume and weight when cooked. With our products, cooking loss is much lower, which means more of what you buy actually ends up on your plate. You also benefit from personal, human service, with someone who guides you from choosing your products all the way to delivery and order follow-up.

In the end, it’s not just about comparing prices; you have to compare quality, yield after cooking, customized cuts and service. At Les Viandes S.M., we offer you the quality of a good butcher shop, delivered right to your home.

Once your meal plan is set, the price you pay stays fixed for 3 years, even if meat prices go up at the market or the grocery store during that time. You get a stable price to plan your family budget with no surprises.

The meal plan generally covers 6 months. The specific terms, such as delivery frequency and quantities, are agreed on with you during the tasting, based on your family’s needs, before you accept anything in writing.

For a contract signed at home, Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act gives you 10 days from the time you receive your signed copy to cancel it at no cost and without giving a reason. After that, contact your representative to discuss an adjustment according to the terms of your contract.

Storage and use at home

Vacuum-sealed and properly frozen, beef and lamb keep for 12 to 24 months, while poultry and pork keep for 6 to 9 months. Vacuum packaging removes the air that causes freezer burn, which protects the flavor far better than grocery store packaging.

The safest method is to let it thaw in the refrigerator, still vacuum-sealed, for 24 to 48 hours depending on the thickness of the cut. For faster results, place it in a Ziploc bag over its vacuum packaging, then submerge it in cold water, changing the water every 30 minutes.

It depends on the size of your meal plan and the space you already have. For an order that covers several weeks of meals, many customers find it useful to have a small chest freezer in addition to the fridge. Your representative can help you figure out how much space you’ll need.
